clothdiaper
versus
When you
ask any mommy what is disposable diapers, I am sure their most
natural response would be "Errr..you mean pampers is it?"
or you may get responses such as "Oh..Huggies lor" or
"Aiya I know, Mummy Poko".
But if
you ask them what is cloth diapers, a lot of them will just stare
at you blankly in the eye.
Now what
I am going to write is not in anyway discriminating against the
usage of disposables or any disposable diaper brands. I am just
going to state some facts and leave the decision to you. Because
as mothers, I believe you would want the best for your baby.
Fact 1:
Health Issues
Are you
aware that disposable diapers contain harmful chemicals? Dioxin
is one of them. Dioxin is a by product of bleaching paper. Some
dioxins are known to cause damages to liver, kidneys and immune
syatem suppression.
The other
harmful chemical is called sodium polyacrylate. Sodium
polyacrylate is added to disposables to increase its absorbency.
However, sodium polyacrylate can cause toxic shock and allergic
reactions such as skin irritation.
Fact 2:
Environment

It takes
an approximate 550 years for 1 disposable diaper to decompose.
Not to mentioned the tonnes of plastic and number of trees needed
to manufacture the disposable diapers. Need I say more?
Fact 3:
Cost

The cost
of disposable diapers varies depending on what brand you use.
Some brands are more expensive than others.
The cost
of cloth diaper also varies. Some expensive but high quality
diapers can last several years. Cheaper but lower quality diapers
may last for a shorter period of time.
The other
factor to consider is the cost of laundry. The more cleaning and
sanitizing that is performed for each load of diapers the higher
the cost.
Other
factors include the cost of electricity, soap, water, and wear on
your washing machine and dryer.
But
generally, if you compare the cost of high quality cloth diapers
against high quality disposables, you will find it more cost
saving to use cloth diaper if you launder it yourself.
